Danza de los viejitos
As a follow-up to Joanna's drawing and the discussion in class--the question came up as to the sources for Danza de los viejitos. Here's a good online presentation

I compared this with Frances Toor's description (pps. 356-7 in Mexican Folkways) and my first thought is that we know a great deal more today--and that the local knowledge from the Purépecha culture adds immensely to our understanding. Toor associates the danza with Michoacan--in other words, with a political state. The site above situates it in tradición indígena--with roots in pre-conquest México, possibly going back to ancient South American Andean cultures...
